One Saturday afternoon in September 1955 a young Italian attorney, Sal Dematteo, while visiting the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh, views an elaborate dagger and begins having visions of ancient Rome and Judea. As these episodes increase, interrupting his life, he consults his Jewish law partner, David Gold, and the two embark on a journey to find the meaning of Sal’s episodes and make them stop.
It appears the visions have a relationship to history and are connected to Flavius Josephus, a historian and descendent of an old Jewish family. Josephus was a top military commander in the Jewish Army in the Galilee and allegedly defected to the Romans after the siege of the fortress city of Jotapata.
As the quest evolves, others become deeply involved, including a psychiatrist, his nurse, a priest and a rabbi. An archaeologist, who calls himself a time detective, is also called in to help them in their search. They learn the dagger, which belonged to the ancient lawgiver, Hammurabi, was passed down through generations of Babylonian Emperors, and is now being sought by the Sicarians, a secret band of assassins who threaten the lives of those involved.

We found the book excellent. It was a real page turner. The author's knowledge of the Jewish facts was astounding. It was exciting and easy to read. It held my interest to the very last word. The autor sounded interesting too.I grew up in Pittsburgh, no longer live there, but it brought back many memories of places that I are familar to me. I recommend this book highlay!

Great history with a fine story.
This is a terrific book, a page turner. For those of us familiar with Pittsburgh, PA, it is particularly fun. I grew up going to the Carnegie Museum. What a treat to read a book with that venerable place as one of the settings! I highly recommend Hammurabi's Dagger.
Recently read this book and throughly enjoyed it. This author lives in my area and I wish he would write another book to enjoy.
I was mesmerized by this book and couldn't put it down. After reading it, I really wanted the adventure to continue. I became interested in that period and am now reading "The Dovekeepers " by Alice Hoffman. I look forward to Hammurabi's Dagger being available on .
Interesting premise. Amateurishly written and full of honking anomalies. I was happy to contribute 10 bucks to an elderly gentleman's old age fund. And apparently he had fun writing it.
