Jim Cadillac is a Registered Vampire (or to be more PC a Documented Altered Person). With the help of his Guardian—a beautiful tactical blonde who serves as his federally-sanctioned surrogate and secret lover—Jim clings to his humanity by being wired, medicated and heavily insured.
But war clouds are amassing on the horizon. An age-long conflict that ended half a century ago beckoned both hunters and vampires back into the battlefield, bringing with them ancient hatreds and modern weapons—the good ‘ol red, white, and boom!

This is a very refreshing take on a vampire story. Author R. G. Tamaki has done a good job of building this world and developing the main character. I don’t want to rehash what others have said, but this isn’t the typical teen vampire romance/ drama. In this world vampires are “out” with registration and regulation. With the highly likeable cast of characters it is very easy to get swept up in the story. I was pleasantly surprised, and I am very happy I took the chance in reading this.
Unfortunately too many of us groan when we see “another vampire book” . I can’t say it too many times, this is in a league of its own, really. It a has a very modern, futuristic , and realistic feeling, and not the stale ancient blood rite nonsense that we are all bored to death of.
It’s a pretty funny read, which was a nice change of pace. The main character(vampire) is a comedian, and still has some humanity which makes him a very good lead to follow. It’s a pretty well paced read that I never got bogged down in. My only hope is Tamaki keeps up the great work and continues writing with the same passion that shows with this novel.

Vampire Americana eBook RG Tamaki Reviews
Good read, entertaining and a page turner.
Great read by a talented writer.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading. Especially with the beginning starting out with Jim doing a comedy routine ...a vampire making girlfriend jokes? It was pleasantly amusing and continued to be through the entire book.
"Jim punched the steering wheel repeatedly, shaking the memory off his mind"
Emotions are high in this book. There is sarcasm, humor, and powerful imagery. The highly believable characters kept my interest piqued. I needed to find out what was going to happen.. Strong settings and naughty scenes with intelligent dialogue made it a page turner.
"You’ve heard the podcasts, you’ve seen the Youtube videos, now he’s here in the flesh, the hilariously funny, Lord of the Darkness, Mr. James Cadillac"
This book was an excellent source of entertainment, from start to finish. First of all, the plot is original, clever and every chapter has been thoroughly considered. The author has created a very believable version of America, just five years from now, where "Vampire" is an officially recognised state of being, and vampires themselves are protected and restricted by a specific set of laws and policies, providing they register themselves as a "Documented Altered Person" or DAP. But with this rise in the undead, an ancient war rises too, which makes for a compelling and thrilling conflict that spears the story forward. The characters are fantastic and unique, I loved the relationship between our protagonist, Jim and his legal sponsor, protector and lover, Carly. The writing style is clever, descriptive and there is a surprising amount of humour. I loved this book, easily my favourite of 2015. 5 stars!
To be honest, I’ve been avoiding pretty much any books that involve the vampire archetype- as it has been overplayed over the past few years and it seems that most writers are unfortunately trying to follow the “Twilight recipe”.. Anyway, with that being said – I ended decided to give R.G. Tamaki’s “Vampire Americana” a chance after stumbling upon the extremely well-animated trailer and I soon thereafter found myself hooked within the actual book quite early on in the read.
The thing that I admire most about the author is that he simply isn’t afraid to try something new and by doing so, he offers readers something fresh and unique to the genre through the story of Jim Cadillac (who is one of the weirdest characters I’ve came across as of recently, to be honest).
Overall, I did enjoy the book but I do think that some of the less prominent characters could have had a bit more detail added to them to make them seem more realistic and dynamic. Other than that, I’d say it’s worth the read.
The story of vampires integrating into the American populace has been done before. In fact, it was one of the basic premises of the long running HBO series, True Blood. What is unique about R.G. Tamaki's novel "Vampire Americana" is the original way that it is told. Vampires are indeed being accepted as part of the general public, but they are highly regulated and forced to take medication to keep themselves under control. It sounds very much like today's modern pharmaceutical culture where children are forced to take ADHD and mood altering drugs so they "fit in." "Vampire Americana is a hard hitting, but easy to read novel where outsiders are treated like second class citizens and are required to be handled by an overseer. It is highly original and is definitely the first dystopian vampire story that I have ever encountered. It is the perfect blend of both genres and I recommend it to fans of both.
